What began in 1998 as a small pizza party for VF Corp. associates has turned into a day to give back to the community.

July 18 is VF Day and employees at the company will participate by collecting classroom supplies for VF’s “Fill the Bus” community service program.

The project began three years ago as a local company effort, but this year more than 50,000 associates worldwide will collect classroom supplies for school teachers in their areas.

“In the U.S. alone, teachers spend approximately $2 billion on classroom supplies annually,” said Mackey McDonald, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Greensboro, N.C.-based VF. “By collecting classroom supplies for local schools, the ‘Fill the Bus’ program builds community spirit and provides teachers with the necessary tools to educate our children.”

As the founders of the “Fill the Bus” program, VF Corp. is committed to raising awareness for this growing need. This year, the program is expanding to VF’s 380 worldwide locations.
