INDIO, Calif. – Stifling heat greeted the droves of music fans who descended upon the Empire Polo Field for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this weekend. Artists and spectators alike adhered to a less-is-more mantra — loose-fitting tanks and Ts, cutoffs, rompers and gladiator sandals — during the three-day bash, now in its ninth season. And this year’s lineup was as fresh as the fashion — Santogold, The Raconteurs, MGMT, M.I.A., Rilo Kiley, Portishead and Prince all braved the 100-plus degree heat to perform for the crowd.
