Levi Strauss & Company -- in cooperation with Neiman Marcus -- is the latest fashion leader to join in support of DIFFA, the Design Industries Foundation For AIDS. The denim giant has invited 800 international designers and celebrities to put their own original stamp on those famous jackets. And 20 of the one-of-a-kind pieces will be auctioned off at the Atlanta Apparel Mart on April 24. The event, which is being held in eight cities, includes a fashion show and party along with the auction. Levi's is also providing 80 unadorned jackets to distribute to locally famous names.
Kevin Knaus, chairman of the event, promises a very theatrical show, complete with music, lights and dancing. Jackets from Franco Moschino, Richard Tyler and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac are already promised, and rumor has it that designers Michael Kors and Mark Badgley and James Mischka of Badgley Mischka are going to make surprise appearances to support the charity. Local celebrities are also on the committee's wish list -- among them: the hip-hop duo Kriss Kross, Elton John and Jane Fonda.
