For his debut collection for Diesel Black Gold, Andreas Melbostad conjured the image of a “chic rocker guy,” as he put it, referencing military men’s wear staples. The Norwegian designer fused sharp tailored items with casual but strong outerwear pieces that included generously cut parkas from either cotton twill or leather with shearling lining. Pants were extra-fitted, cut from either wool flannel or zipped leather. However, this solid effort did not include any denim. Instead, there was plenty of cotton twill with metallic coating, which created a futuristic vibe. The key item was the biker jacket featuring a plethora of custom-designed patches, which were studded on the leather.

“I’ve always wanted to create clothes that empower and that feel fearless,” explained Melbostad. At times, the inspiration became too literal as models paraded in head-to-toe laminated biker ensembles that evoked hyper-glam astronauts.
