PARIS — Part birthday party, part supermodel reunion, Christian Dior’s couture show on July 2 promises to be an extravaganza extraordinaire.
Lifting a veil on the much-anticipated event at the Orangerie at Versailles, Dior said John Galliano’s latest couture collection would be inspired by the house’s 60th anniversary, and dedicated to Steven Robinson, his longtime right-hand man who died in April at age 38.
Dior plans to invite 1,000 clients, celebrities and editors to the show, timed around sunset, and has specified a dress code of “elegance extreme.” A spokesman said it’s too early to identify who might attend.
Galliano tapped Michael Howells for the set design, and Dior regular Jeremy Healy will be in charge of music.
Dior said the show would “draw from the legacy of the house” and feature “some of the most iconic supermodels of this generation,” while declining to name them. An after party in the garden of Versailles, described as a “modern-day Bal des Artistes,” will follow.
The July couture season is chockablock with anniversary events. Christian Lacroix, marking the 20th anniversary of his house, is hosting a party at Georges atop the Pompidou museum on July 3. Valentino, celebrating 45 years of design, is inviting the fashion pack to Rome for his July 7 couture show and ball, flanked by a retrospective exhibition and a fragrance launch.
