Flaunting the confident, laid-back cool of the five boroughs, Donna Karan turned out a DKNY spring collection that was New York through and through.

She placed an emphasis on clean lines and sophisticated cuts, giving it all a real-world appeal. Belted trenches, boxy dresses and sleek pared-down jackets, all in a neutral palette, demonstrated a fresh workday wardrobe that never looked dull — or too outlandish.

Meanwhile, a sporty streak ran throughout, with silk bomber jackets, flouncy skirts and baseball shirts done with a knowing slouchiness.

The result: a smart, pulled-together lineup that lives up to the urban chic the label has come to represent, while still reflecting the city’s swagger.
