NEW YORK -- Donald Hopson, 57, who was designer of the Ann Lawrence Today line for the Ann Lawrence dress company, died Friday at his home in Brooklyn.

The cause of death was lung cancer, according to Alfred Charles Siciliano, his companion.

Hopson had been designing the day dress collection at Ann Lawrence for three years and was active in the business until a few months before the Lawrence company closed at the end of December.

Before joining Lawrence, Hopson had served as head designer at Adele Simpson for 14 years. Earlier, he spent three years as assistant designer at Kasper for Joan Leslie.

In addition to his companion, survivors include his father, Henry Coats Hopson, and a sister, Phyllis Arnold.

At Hopson's request, no funeral service will be held.
