NEW YORK — Donna Karan just isn’t busy enough: Now she’s doing a book.

The Donna Karan Co. will publish its first book this month — an homage to New York — featuring a CD-ROM of Karan’s runway shows, a subway map, an MTA Metrocard, a condom and Peter Lindbergh’s color photographs that were used in the fall DKNY ad campaign.

Some 10,000 oversized, spiral-bound copies will be printed. The book will sell for $49.95 and proceeds will go toward the CFDA-Vogue Initiative/NYC AIDS Fund. The book will be available in mid-September in such stores as Rizzoli, Barnes & Noble, Doubleday, Waldenbooks and the Madison Avenue Bookstore, here.

Other features in the book include a crossword puzzle about New York City, a “Don’t Knock New York” bumper sticker, postcards and a directory of phone numbers for such essentials as the Hampton Jitney, Ray’s Pizza and movie information.

The book also features quotes from notable New Yorkers about why they love New York. The list includes Liza Minelli, Joan Rivers, Ru Paul, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Kal Ruttenstein, John Updike, Tina Brown, Anna Wintour, Liz Tilberis, Gene Pressman, Bernadette Peters, Larry King, Carrie Donovan and, of course, Barbra Streisand.

“There’s no room for amateurs, even in crossing streets,” writes artist George Segal.

Karan will sell and autograph books at a party at Bloomingdale’s here, in conjunction with Vogue, on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The event will celebrate the opening of DKNY’s new 4,000-square-foot supershop on the third floor.
