LOS ANGELES — It’s still summer, but Hollywood is already gearing up for awards season, which kicks off each September with the Emmy Awards.

The nominations for the 55th annual show, announced Thursday morning, came as no surprise, but regardless, style mavens and armchair fashionistas alike will be watching closely to see who will emerge as this season’s red-carpet queen. Sarah Jessica or Debra again? Perhaps a fresh face like Jennifer Garner or Lauren Ambrose? Of course, right about now, designers should be scrambling to get their gowns on the lucky ladies, as the small screen’s fashion factor becomes increasingly important.

The show will be broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium Sept. 21 on Fox at 8 p.m. EDT.
