Millard “Mickey” Drexler, chairman and chief executive officer of J. Crew Group Inc., will receive the National Retail Federation’s Gold Medal Award, which recognizes vision and leadership in retailing, on Jan. 16 at the NRF’s annual convention and EXPO at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.
Reed Hastings, founder, chairman and ceo of Netflix, will receive NRF’s Innovator of the Year award, and Kishore Biyani, founder and managing director, of Pantaloon Retail (India) Ltd., will get the International Retailer of the Year award.
J. Crew has emerged as a hot fashion brand under the leadership of Drexler, who broadened the merchandise mix, raised quality standards, turned the company around and took it public.
Netflix was launched in 1999 and has become the world’s largest online DVD movie rental service. The policy of no late fees or return due dates revolutionized the movie rental industry.
Pantaloon Retail has more than 100 stores in 30 cities in India selling an array of food, fashion, electronics, health care products and general merchandise.
