NEW YORK — Fashion, shaping and comfort outlined DuPont Textiles & Interior’s spring-summer 2004 intimate apparel workshop.

Running through May 28 at the DTI offices at 1430 Broadway here, the workshop was presented by Iris LeBron, DTI’s fashion director of intimate apparel, activewear and swimwear.

The presentation opened with a video highlighting lingerie trends from runway shows of the French-operated Salon International de la Lingerie trade fair in Paris and the Lyon, Mode City edition in Lyon, France. Trend boards with directional colors, fabric swatches and boudoir accessories represented three themes of lingerie rendered in Tactel, Soft Comfort Lycra and CoolMax and Supplex: “Discover,” “Recover” and “Undercover.”

The message from the “Discover” group was aimed at a woman who “demands attention and wants to be recognized for her fashion talent,” said LeBron.

Key colors include tomato red, Caribbean blue and canary yellow, accented with deep mauve and soft lavender.

Prints include a variety of paisleys and animal motifs.

Special effects include bright red and pink laces on a black ground, as well as ruffled sheers and ribbon slotting. Bra cups with colorful underwire casings and hipster bottoms are top ideas.

Key labels such as Benetton, Dolce & Gabbana, Divertimento, E2 and Beautiful People by Vannina Vesperina focused on the young contemporary classification in foundations and daywear.

Comfort and freedom of movement underscore the “Recover” theme. LeBron said the consumer most receptive to this idea is “open to the benefit of advanced technology and reshaping the body as long as it’s comfortable and functional at the same time.”

Key colors include nude, sky blue, plum and berry.

Patterns include jacquard, floral and lace surface treatments on a solid ground.

Special effects include oversized floral appliqués and floral and lace embroidered sheers.

Key brands like Kristina Ti of Italy and Lovable Europe featured control briefs with laser-cut effects, scallop treatments and coordinating bras.

Lastly, the “Undercover” theme is geared to a woman who “values authenticity and is in tune with nature, convenience and comfort, combined with the right style and look,” said LeBron.

Key colors include mango orange and milk-chocolate brown paired with soft pastels.

Special treatments include perforated effects on seamless pieces, laminated labels, ruching, asymmetric splicing and colorful embroideries.

Key categories include daywear, sleepwear and at-homewear.

The majority of items from the Undercover group were concept pieces by DuPont, such as soft Empire and draped slips and updated basics in a variety of tops and bottoms.
