NEW YORK — In a bid to more clearly differentiate sales and marketing functions, DuPont Textiles & Interiors on Thursday revealed a bit of executive reshuffling.

The Wilmington, Del.-based firm named Kent Smith to the new post of vice president of North America for DTI Apparel. Smith, who was business director for terathane at DuPont, will report to Bill Ghitis, president of global apparel, and will oversee the new apparel marketing department.

Six officials will report to him. They are:

  • Edson Garcia, general director of Filmex and DuPek, Mexico.

  • Bob Dzielak, sales manager.

  • Bill Foster, marketing manager.

  • Jeff Weber, product and price manager.

  • Joe Robinson, technology manager.

  • Alyssa Koontz, communications manager.

Explaining the shifts, a DuPont spokeswoman said: “Sometimes companies, not just ours, confuse marketing and sales. Marketing’s job is to understand the marketplace needs and work on developing the programs and products...that an organization can go out and deliver.”

In addition, Jon Penrice has been named to the new position of vice president of global marketing. The formerly Hong Kong-based global director for the active and outdoor segment will relocate to Geneva for this job.
