NEW YORK — London-born Budgie the Little Helicopter landed here Monday night. The author of the books featuring the cartoon helicopter — HRH the Duchess of York — was scheduled to appear at a cocktail reception Monday night in her honor, where several new licensees for the Budgie character were to be announced.
Among the apparel licensees are The Doe Spun Group for children’s sportswear and playwear, Just Bottoms and Tops for children’s sweaters and the Nylint Corp. for sleepwear. Essex Manufacturing will be making rainwear and umbrellas, and Jaclyn Inc. will be manufacturing backpacks, bags and soft luggage.
“In addition to those categories, others under consideration would be footwear, socks and swimwear,” said a spokesman for Launey, Hachmann & Harris Inc., which handles licensing arrangements for the Budgie property in the U.S.
Products are expected to be shipped for the holiday season this year.
At the cocktail party, the Duchess was expected to present a donation to Hale House, a care facility for addicted or AIDS-infected children, in the name of Budgie.
