Half a dozen drag queens, the Sri Lanken rap artist M.I.A., and enough hipsters to fill an entire L-train showed up at the Marc Jacobs party Friday night. Which more or less made it business as usual, except for the fact that this year, the party started at 8 p.m. instead of the usual 10 p.m. It happened this way because Jacobs decided to start his show at 7 p.m. (two hours earlier than normal) and miraculously, actually started almost on time. “We were ready to go at ten to seven but no one was there,” boasted Jacobs, who arrived at his party with his boyfriend Jason Preston and an entourage that included a gay porn actor named Eric Rhodes, who is known for his roles in films such as “Rush and Release” and “Basic Plumbing 3.” Also in the crowd were Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, who’d just performed at the show, and Debbie Harry, the former Blondie frontwoman Jacobs put on several of his bags last year. “It was for charity,” she said. “I can’t remember which one.”
