NEW YORK -- Services for Estelle Sommers, 74, a co-owner of Capezio dancewear stores and a former designer of the Capezio line, were held here Wednesday.
Sommers died of cancer at her home here Monday, according to her family.
She operated the Capezio stores along with her daughter Gayle Miller. The six stores are in New York, Chicago and Hollywood. Sommers' husband, Ben Sommers, who died in 1985, had headed the Capezio manufacturing and retailing company. The two had been known for their philanthropic contributions to the dance world.
Estelle Sommers also developed and designed bodywear for the company during the Sixties and Seventies.
In addition to Gayle Miller, Sommers is survived by two other daughters, Cathy Rano and Debbie Palmer; five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
