Eugenia Kim is putting on her Coach’s hat.
Kim, a headwear designer and 2004 winner of the CFDA Perry Ellis award for Accessories Design, is collaborating with Coach president and executive creative director Reed Krakoff for a hat collection to be launched for spring.
The first hats from the line will hit Coach stores nationwide Feb. 1. Several other styles, featuring feathers, exotic trims and Coach’s signature Legacy stripes, will be introduced in April.
Retail prices of the 20-piece collection, which span from pageboys to bucket hats, will range from $128 to $398.
“We’ve done collaborations for many years with different designers,” said Krakoff. “We work with people whose work we admire and have a sensibility we can relate to, and I loved what Eugenia was doing in the hat world. We wanted to do something that was authentic and we wanted to do it with someone who really understood the hat business.”
In recent years, the $2.61 billion Coach brand has collaborated with Lutz & Patmos on a line of cashmere knits and a singular creative tote with the artist Kiki Smith.
In addition to designing hats, head wraps and shoes, Kim is also the author of “Saturday Night Hat: Quick, Easy Hatmaking for the Downtown Girl.”
“The collaboration was amazing because Coach is such a consistent brand,” said Kim. “It’s so inspiring. They’ve been consistently using the same hardware, the same stripes for years. It’s our 10-year anniversary next year and it was a great learning experience on how to create a brand with staying power. It was great to see the evolution of what I could be.”
Coach will decorate the windows in its Madison Avenue store in Manhattan this spring to fete the collection.
