Even as the temperature plunges, European women aren’t about to drop their sense of style. In Berlin, Milan and Paris they’re wearing trenchcoats, military-inspired styles and parkas to fend off the cold.

Berliners are a hardy lot. The temperature may be dipping — and, on Monday, snow falling — but trendy young women around the Hackesche Markt in Mitte prefer their outerwear short. Military styles in army green and khaki are popular this season, as are fur and shearling. Hats with ear warmers, caps and chunky mufflers are a must, and ponchos are taking to the streets in growing numbers.

In Milan, women have brought out a plethora of trendy coats to stay warm in the winter chill. Most are going with trenchcoats in various lengths, snug car coats in macro tweeds and quilted down jackets in frosted pink. Military-inspired coats are also popular along the Via Montenapoleone and elsewhere, especially fitted styles jazzed up with zippers, metal buttons, patch pockets and thick belts. Colorwise, it’s a kaleidoscope of winter whites, browns, smoke gray, cherry red and bark brown.

Parisians somehow manage to look chic even window-shopping in stormy weather. Trendy trenchcoats, sporty parkas and cropped fur and leather jackets are some of this season’s favorites. For an added splash of style, women are wearing accessories such as colorful hats and boots worn over pants, and even carrying poodles with coats that match their outerwear.
