No place is safe for Pierre Berge these days. All of Paris has been talking about how, at what should have been a quiet, cozy New Year's dinner at President Francois Mitterrand's, Berge got into the soup, literally. A waiter, or so the story goes, accidentally spilled a tureen of hot soup on Pierre's head and scalded him, in an incident that's already being referred to as La Soupe du President. "How did you know that?" demanded Berge, when asked about the incident. "Yes, it's true. I'm OK, though it was a difficult thing. But it wasn't soup -- it was sauce, which is much worse."
Get out your party clothes. There are a couple of hot tickets for the week of Feb. 7. First, it's the CFDA Awards Monday night when the American fashion industry converges on the State Theater at Lincoln Center to honor itself. About 500 of the guests will be students from such schools as FIT, Pratt and Parsons, and they'll be there thanks to men's wear designer Tommy Hilfiger, who paid $25,000 for their seats.
On Wednesday, more than 250 people are expected to join Ross Bleckner, Carla Fendi, Michael Gould, Robert Phillips and B.D. Wong to ring in the Chinese New Year with a benefit for the Community Research Initiative on AIDS. Actress Joan Chen and "Wedding Banquet" director Ang Lee will be honored and Fendi will introduce its newest scent, Asja.

“There’s a huge gap between the old way of doing things and today. It takes the youth to help evolve that. You have to count on the kids today to help lead you into the future. A lot of these retailers are stuck in the past. Communication is the biggest thing,” said @ronniefieg of @kith on the youth’s role in retail.
