No place is safe for Pierre Berge these days. All of Paris has been talking about how, at what should have been a quiet, cozy New Year's dinner at President Francois Mitterrand's, Berge got into the soup, literally. A waiter, or so the story goes, accidentally spilled a tureen of hot soup on Pierre's head and scalded him, in an incident that's already being referred to as La Soupe du President. "How did you know that?" demanded Berge, when asked about the incident. "Yes, it's true. I'm OK, though it was a difficult thing. But it wasn't soup -- it was sauce, which is much worse."

About 500 of the guests will be students from such schools as FIT, Pratt and Parsons, and they'll be there thanks to men's wear designer Tommy Hilfiger, who paid $25,000 for their seats.
