NEW YORK — Despite a challenging climate, some new names are looking to break into the scene this fall.

Trendy footwear firm Skechers USA is entering legwear through a licensing partnership with Renfro Corp. Skechers legwear, which will hit stores in November, is slated to include sport and casual styles, as well as hosiery, for men and women.

The licensing deal is the first for Skechers, which has found success by offering fashion-forward sneaker and footwear styles that don’t break the bank. The company is targeting department, specialty and sporting goods stores.

Mootsies Tootsies, the moderate footwear brand, has started offering women’s legwear in a licensing pact with hosiery firm Williams Management. The company’s products carry wholesale prices of $2 to $4 and include styles such as trouser socks, dress styles and knee-highs. First-year sales projections for the line are between $1.5 million and $2 million.

Lucky Brand Dungarees, a division of Liz Claiborne Inc., will launch a 15-piece legwear line targeting the junior market in a licensing deal with American Essentials. Key features include Lucky’s four-leaf clover logo, as well as stripes and argyles done in fashion and athletic socks, footlets and knee-highs, wholesaling for $8 to $12.

American Essentials is also producing the new Lulu Guinness legwear collection slated to launch for holiday. Its socks feature whimsical motifs such as a cameo adorned with little faux pearls as earrings and puppy dogs with studded collars. The collection will retail between $20 and $30.
