SILVER SCREEN: Talk about déjà vu. A little-known 1979 documentary about 10 leading Paris designers — screened Thursday in Paris after being unearthed by industry consultant Jean-Jacques Picart and restored with the financial aid of Bernard Arnault — showed how much, and how little, has changed. Sure, photographers clumped willy-nilly around the runway and models like Pat Cleveland played to the cameras with merry, prancing antics in those days. But Karl Lagerfeld, designing for Chloé at the time, was championing a “modern” approach even then, and warning about designing too much for the client. Houses like Kenzo were debating the pros and cons of showing theatrical “costumes” versus real clothes on the runway. And designers were musing on their lives beyond fashion. Asked what his plans were by an interviewer, Thierry Mugler mused: “To do films. In Hollywood, maybe.” Sound familiar?

PARTING WAYS: Irene Silvagni, creative director for Yohji Yamamoto, has exited the house after 12 years working beside Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, WWD has learned. Silvagni is said to have clashed with Yamamoto management. A former fashion editor at French Vogue and a beloved impresario on the fashion and photography scenes, Silvagni has not indicated her plans. At Yamamoto, no successor will be named.

ACTION MAN: He’s accused of being shy, but Swedish soccer player Freddie Ljungberg is proving he’s no wallflower. As the new face — or more accurately, body — of Calvin Klein Underwear, Ljungberg descended onto London this week with a photo frenzy. Amid a sea of buses bearing the campaign for the new Calvin Klein Pro-Stretch, a giant billboard was unveiled in London’s Charing Cross Monday, rivaling his Times Square gig in New York. Thursday, Ljungberg appeared at Selfridges in London, where all 24 windows are graced with his picture presence. However, unlike his predecessor, Travis Fimmel, who’s gone to try his luck in Hollywood, Ljungberg’s feet will stay firmly on the field. “Soccer is what I do and I have no plans to give it up for an acting career,” Ljungberg said in an interview. “Although, if I were asked by Calvin Klein for a television campaign, I wouldn’t say no.”WATCHING HERSELF: Monica Lewinsky has been laying low lately but she braved the rain Wednesday night to view the new designer watches from Sector Group at Bryant Hotel. Looking relaxed and refreshed, Lewinsky chatted with guests and checked out the timepiece debuts from Valentino, Roberto Cavalli, Moschino and United Colors of Benetton, as well as the Sector brand, all produced by the Italian watch group. “I am still working on my handbag line and I have a lot of other projects in the works,” she said. Nonetheless, Lewinsky still remains a bit press shy, and declined to have her photo taken.
