COURTING COURREGES?: French financier Alain Dumenil, who acquired the high-end footwear and accessories company Stephane Kelian earlier this week and took a majority stake in France Luxury Group in November, is studying the possibility of buying the fashion house Courrèges, confirmed Patrick Engler, Groupe Alain Dumenil’s managing director. Courrèges, as reported, has dropped all its wholesale accounts in order to focus on its own retail to exert greater control over its brand. Dumenil, meanwhile, also is interested in creating a new luxury group — yet another in the string of similar groupings forming throughout Europe.

NAKED TRUTH: For his 66th birthday, the founder of Paris-based marketing firm Marketing Futur took out a full-page advertisement in French daily Liberation that gave more than a nod to Yves Saint Laurent. Not only did Jacques R. Bourin pose naked for the shot, à la YSL, with a camera covering his intimate details, but he also alluded to the beauty firm’s latest men’s fragrance, M7. However, the product protecting Bourin’s dignity wasn’t the YSL scent, but the latest Leica model, which carries the same name. The ad also stated that Marketing Futur was "le marketing au parfum," meaning contemporary marketing in English, with a word play on fragrance. Bourin said he was surprised that he hadn’t seen anyone make the connection between the two pivotal products before. The ad made clear that neither of the M7s had any link with Marketing Futur’s activities, which are in the financial sector.
