APPLE OF HIS EYE: For Nelly, making clothes for men is just not enough. The multiplatinum-selling rapper will launch Apple Bottoms, a women’s sportswear line for spring 2004. Sales manager Jenny Nunez said Nelly came up with the name.
"When he looks at a woman, he sees an apple." Nunez said. "That’s what he says."
The company will introduce a small group for fall, but is saving the major launch for spring. Nunez said the line will be much more feminine and sexy than the line Nelly already runs for men, Vokal, and will include dresses and hoodie sets.
FUR FLIES: It looks like Georges Wichner has exited as managing director of French furrier Revillon after less than four months on the job. Sources said Wichner, formerly the head of Valentino and Thierry Mugler in the U.S., did not see eye-to-eye with Revillon owner Dusanka Milisevic. Still, the firm is believed to be moving ahead with a rejuvenation plan with Los Angeles designer Rick Owens. Neither Wichner nor Milisevic could immediately be reached for comment.
DOLL FACE: What to wear while you’re searching for eternal love — especially one that might end tragically? Why, Yohji Yamamoto, of course. That was the choice of famous Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Kitano, whose latest release, "Dolls," was costumed by Yamamoto. The movie, which opens in France on Wednesday, tracks three hopelessly romantic — and very well-dressed — couples on the road to disaster.
HOLLYWOULD HIGH: Holly Dunlap, creative director of Hollywould, celebrated her nomination by the CFDA for Swarovski’s Perry Ellis Award for Accessory Design the old-fashioned way. She threw a keg party Thursday night at the boutique. There to cheer Dunlap on with their beers were the Hollywould frat crew: Iman, Sofia Coppola, Peter Arnold, Fernanda Niven, Rachel Peters and Lars Nilsson. Can you say keg stand?
BARRY’S NEW OBSESSION: Barry Schwartz might have retired from the apparel business but he’ll probably be spending a lot more time in clothing stores, especially those catering to babies. He and his wife, Sheryl, became first-time grandparents Friday night when their daughter, Stephanie Schwartz Ferdman, gave birth to a girl at New York Hospital, Jordan Shelby Ferdman.
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia. It’s really a show that celebrates that and the paisley design of India and its origin,” said Veronica Etro. #wwdfashion #mfw #ss18 (📷: @delphineachard)
