CANVASING: After models and celebrities, could hot contemporary artists be the next faces of fashion? New York men's wear designer Adam Kimmel makes a compelling case with his hip spring 2007 look book, which is peopled by the likes of Banks Violette, Rita Ackerman, Hope Etherton and the Neistat brothers. Kimmel has long tapped his famous friends to pose in his fledgling line, which his brother, Alexei Hay, photographs against a white wall. But this time, the artistic casting had a strong link to the collection. Kimmel said he was inspired by the heavy cotton drop cloths in artists' studios, which he styled into jeans, trenchcoats and even suits.
ONE AND ONLY: With the holiday season creeping up, certain designers are out to prove that they ain't no Scrooge. A candy pink Chanel bag, a striped wedge by PierreHardy and a graffiti-tagged cocktail dress with matching bow-tied Dr. Martens, courtesy of Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, represent a sprinkling of 51 one-off designer creations to go under the hammer Dec. 14 in Paris. The auction, organized by French fashion magazine Stiletto, is in aid of hospital charity Le Rire Médecin (The Doctor's Laugh).
ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST: Guests such as Vera Wang and Carla Fendi are expected at a party at Peter Marino's Upper East Side manse Wednesday night, honoring Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne's show at the Paul Kasmin Gallery. Aside from collaborating with the artistic duo for more than 20 years, the architect is the largest single collector of their work. Artists such as Kenneth Noland and Robb Wynn and the other 35 or so partygoers will get to see the Lalannes' finery throughout the dinner. They have provided the centerpieces, which, of course, are not party favors.
BLAZING TRAILS: Swindle magazine hosted a dinner in the penthouse of Hollywood's Roosevelt Hotel on Saturday to fete its first "Icons" issue, a hardcover tome featuring more than 50 trailblazers — from Slash and Bobby Seale to Judy Blume and Jane Goodall. Perry Farrell, Henry Rollins, Louis Verdad and Ivanka Trump joined a handful of "Icons," including Elvira, music legend Brendan Mullen, political artist Robbie Conal and sex columnist Anka Radakovich, for the Motorola-sponsored soiree, which culminated in a performance by the fashion-conscious Section Quartet on the penthouse roof. The soft-spoken Elvira was wholly unrecognizable out of her trademark sexy-witch getup."When they called me, I said, ‘What do I have to do?'" joked Radakovich, who recently submitted her third book (and first novel) to her publisher. "But women will take any compliment. We so rarely get them."
L.A. STORIES: Paper Project Los Angeles is back for a second time from today to Sunday at 5500 Hollywood Boulevard. The one-week multimedia experiment, sponsored by MAC, bowed in December and yielded Paper's Los Angeles-themed February issue, a mix of local art, fashion, music and photography. This year, the lineup includes a fashion day with presentations from Rodarte, Jeremy Scott, Brian Lichtenberg, Kimm Buzzelli of Show Pony, Benjamin Cho, Threeasfour and Gareth Pugh and a party with DJ Cho. The final day will serve as an open call to Los Angeles design talent from noon to 5 p.m. in Paper's Fashionmobile, aka a souped-up trailer.

“I just wanted to create this fully rounded character, but I do think what excited me most was just the opportunity to give a group of people representation that I feel needs it. I like to do characters in projects that stand for something and Karolina definitely does, so that was really exciting to me,” @ginnygardner says of her new role in @hulu’s “The Runaways.” Gardner plays Karolina Dean, a queer superhero, which is a rarity for @marvel. “Azzedine has been one of the biggest influences in my life. He has always been such a strong, loving, fatherly figure to me. I call him Papa. His designs are indescribably unique, they are pieces of art. He knew how to make the female form look its loveliest. I have so many memories of him; my favorite might be during my first show with him in Paris. He liked me and he wanted to help me get more work. He called all his friends at Kenzo and Comme des Garcons, and asked them to book me. They said, ‘But she can’t walk!’ And he said, ‘but she has such a great ass!' His friendship and support has been the great privilege of my career. I can't imagine life without him. Repose en paix mon Papa.” - @stephanieseymour tells @wwd. #wwdfashion (📷: @steveeichner) #alaia #azzedinealaia
Azzedine Alaïa, flanked by two of his closest friends, models Stephanie Seymour and Naomi Campbell.
He designed Seymour’s dress for her 1995 wedding to Peter Brant, and treated Campbell (who famously called him Papa), like a daughter. For more on the legendary designer, tap the link in bio. #wwdfashion #alaia #azzedinealaia
