DIESEL DASH: On Aug. 29, one week before he celebrates Diesel’s 25th anniversary in Italy, founder Renzo Rosso is jetting to Sydney to kick off his first freestanding store in the southern hemisphere — a three-level, 6,400-square-foot Australian flagship on Oxford Street, Paddington. After the opening, Diesel is throwing a party for 1,000 at a mystery harbor location. And with Tony Assness at the helm, it promises to be quite a party.
Besides his fashion extravaganzas at May’s Mercedes Australian Fashion Week, Assness’ other bashes have included the Fox Studios Australia opening for 5,000 people, the “Moulin Rouge” Australian premiere for 3,000, Lachlan Murdoch’s bachelor party on a secluded Sydney beach, and the party Baz Luhrmann and Murdoch held with Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Catherine Martin, Sarah O’Hare and Collette Dinnigan on New Year’s Eve in 1999 for 400 — for which Assness transformed a heritage yacht into a floating pleasure palace.
Tom and co. won’t be in town for the Diesel do, but Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman might well be — they’re still in the neighborhood shooting the next “Star Wars.” If he turns up, let's hope McGregor doesn’t feel compelled to jump up on Diesel’s lighting rig and scream “I'm the king of the world,” as Cruise did on the New Year’s yacht. “I had to get someone to pull him down,” said Assness. “The insurance at these things is an absolute nightmare.”
SEXY SHOPPER: Despite all those wardrobe changes on “Sex and the City,” Sarah Jessica Parker just can’t get enough fashion. The star popped into Club Monaco’s Fifth Avenue store last Wednesday for a little afternoon shopping. So what were the fashion maven’s finds? A flared skirt in bubblegum pink, a black military-inspired bag, a camisole and a sleek striped halter top. Perfect “Sex” fare.
UNDER THE MALLORCAN SUN: That’s where a team from Henri Bendel spent a weekend, at Sebastian Pons’ family finca. The designer, who had worked for fashion mavericks Miguel Adrover and Alexander McQueen, has culled some one-of-a-kind pieces fashioned from an antique loom, of all things. If all goes well on the Spanish isle, Pon’s designs will be found in Bendel’s this fall.
"I was driving back on Saturday afternoon from the beach, and I just saw this sign saying 'Skydiving for $95.' And I was like, I can't not sky dive for $95," says Tom Bateman about a moment in Hawaii while shooting "Snatched." #wwdeye (📷: @vsteves; Interview by @ktauer; Styled by @thealexbadia)
