INVITATION REQUIRED: The guest list can’t be confirmed yet, but it’s rumored that Madonna and Guy Ritchie, Gwyneth Paltrow and any other top celebrities in town for the MTV VMA awards will be attending the late-night post-bash hosted by Sean "P. Diddy" Combs next Thursday. A spokesman for the event was tight-lipped about the guest list, saying with typical pr hyperbole that the event will be "the greatest party in New York City" with a "very strict guest list."
The location is rumored to be Cipriani, where P. Diddy has held some of his fashion shows, but even that is up in the air. Start time? About 11:45 p.m., going until about 4 the next morning.
Party sponsors include Motorola, Chrysler, Sean John and Reebok. "The gift bags are of unprecedented proportions," he promised. "Ridiculous."
COMMANDO PERFORMANCE: The Freedom America, the Tommy Hilfiger-sponsored entry in the upcoming "Around Alone" yacht race, left its perch on the Hudson River on Thursday night, sailing off to Newport, R.I., for last-minute preparations before the race begins back in New York on Sept. 15. During its month-long stay at the Chelsea Piers in Manhattan, designer Tommy Hilfiger only had a chance to make one excursion on the boat, but Joel Horowitz, chief executive officer of the apparel company, actually steered the 50-foot boat on a really windy day. "He really loved it," said Brad Van Liew, who will captain the yacht through the eight-month race and is now stripping down its accoutrements to the bare bones, considering every ounce counts when it comes to speed. That includes cutting his toothbrush in half and, on a fashion note, paring down his Hilfiger-designed wardrobe to the essentials: "I never wear underwear," he said. "Just a T-shirt for every four days and I wear one pair of shorts a week."
FLY GIRL: Stella McCartney has gone street — literally — with her current advertising campaign. In a bid to create a groovy, underground vibe, McCartney has mounted an outdoor poster campaign in London. The posters, slapped on walls across town, bear the same erotic illustrations by David Remfry as the ad campaign — and that’s it. There’s no designer name, no copy, no nothing. "Other designers haven’t done this," said a spokesman for McCartney. "It’s more of a music industry approach."McCartney’s ad campaign broke in September issues of W, V, Harper’s Bazaar, U.S. Vogue and U.S. Elle.
@chanel and @pharrell dropped what’s being dubbed as the world’s most exclusive sneakers yesterday. The Adidas Originals NMD Hu, which Williams designed in collaboration with Chanel and @adidasoriginals, has a waiting list of over 120K people who pre-registered online at chanelatcolette.fr –– and only 500 pairs are on sale.
