LAST BUT NOT LEAST: It took until Wednesday afternoon for Jean Paul Gaultier to confirm his presenter for the Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars event tonight, but the designer reeled in a big fish. Uma Thurman, star of “Kill Bill,” was added to a celebrity lineup for the awards that already includes Demi Moore, Beyoncé, Liza Minnelli, Isabella Rossellini, Chloë Sevigny and Iman.
WATER VIEW: The roving Night of Olanabenefit is channeling Paris this year. Hosted in part by Yves Saint Laurent, the fete tonight is being held in a loft space overlooking the Hudson River. Party planners were hoping to capture the spirit of Paris’ Left Bank with their strategic choice of locale. The requisite socials like Vanessa von Bismarck, Bettina Zilkha, Plum Sykes and Jamie Johnson will be in attendance dining on rillettes of salmon with vodka, beef tenderloin and a chestnut custard.
Attire? Rive Gauche, of course.
A FORD IN YOUR FUTURE: Harrison Ford’s 16-year-old son, Malcolm, walked the 2 B Free show on Monday bringing his father and Calista Flockhart to the front row of Smashbox. “I actually don’t know who the designers are,” confessed Flockhart. “We’re here to support Harrison’s son.”
Malcolm, who is friends with one of the show’s producers, made his modeling debut. “It was fun. If I had the opportunity, I would do it again, but I’m still in school,” the younger Ford said. But he really wants to be a photographer.
MILES IN CHARGE: Lauded interior designer Miles Redd has joined Oscar de la Renta Ltd. as creative director of the ready-to-wear house’s burgeoning home decor business. He will continue to run his eponymous decorating firm.
Redd started his career in New York at the Upper East Side home store, John Rosselli, then went on to assist decorator Bunny Williams before establishing his own firm in 1998.
At Oscar de la Renta, Redd will oversee the newly created home division, which currently includes a furniture line with Century Furniture; home decor fabrics with ANK Ltd.; a bedding line with Rose Tree, and home fragrances with Slatkin & Co. Alex Bolen, director of corporate development, said licenses for tabletop, mattresses, area rugs and wallpaper are expected to be finalized by the end of the year, with plans in areas such as lighting, paint and even garden tools.SEEING STARS: Starlet Jaime Pressly, best known for her roles in “Not Another Teen Movie” and “Joe Dirt,” pulled in Hollywood’s B-list for her debut as a lingerie and loungewear designer Tuesday night at Smashbox. With the help of her power publicist, BWR’s Nicole King, Pressly drew party boys Andrew Keegan, Christian Slater, Shane West and Adam Goldberg, as well as brothers Jason and Brandon Davis, who are starting to become the Hilton sister equivalent of trustafarian ubiquity during fashion week.
LATE DATE: Saturday night is the loneliest night of the week, so an eclectic crowd that included Rose McGowan, Jason Lewis of “Sex and the City,” Bai Ling, Ray Liotta, Samantha Mathis, Jordana Brewster, Scott Speedman and Maxwell headed to Hudson Studios in New York for Paper Magazine and Emporio Armani’s Nightclub in the Sky. Ross Bleckner chatted with Barbara Bush as they waited for a performance by Grace Jones, who was set to go on around midnight, but — you know how fashion shows are — finally hit the stage at 3 a.m. In anticipation of singing “Pull Up to the Bumper,” Jones arrived on the roof of a Fifties Rolls Royce via the freight elevator and made a point of making her fans wait through three costume changes during her four-song set (which included one performed offstage). As if you couldn’t have guessed, Jones has a thing for Issey Miyake origami couture and purple Philip Treacy hats.
OSCAR BOUND? When 7th on Sixth’s Fern Mallis convinced designer Esteban Cortazar — less than two weeks ago — to reprise his lauded New York show here, the 19-year-old wunderkind from Miami had his sights set on more than the event’s downtown runways. “I really want to do the Oscars, or the Golden Globes,” he enthused Tuesday, hours after his show kicked off the Mercedes-Benz Shows LA program. “I think my looks are perfect for the red carpet.” Nicole Kidman, not surprisingly, tops his list of people to dress, and he and his people are in talks with the actress and her people, although he might have some heady competition. This is his first trip to L.A., but definitely not his last. He’s already returning next week to tape a segment on Sharon Osbourne’s talk show.BUT WILL THEY PLAY LUMPY GRAVY? Singer Lisa Loeb snuck out of working on her fifth album Tuesday night in order to catch the Petro Zillia show. She and designer Nony Tochterman met two years ago when the latter created several looks for a Japanese tour. They’ve been pals ever since. But Loeb, wearing a custom Petro Zillia rainbow-colored, mini shirtdress and yellow tulle underskirt, is busy on another project: “I’m doing a cooking show for the Food Network with Dweezil” — as in boyfriend Zappa. “It’s kind of a couple’s cooking show, but more fun,” she added about the series, slated for mid-January. The name? “The Dweezil and Lisa Show,” of course.
NO RESERVATIONS: Unlike last season, Nikki and Paris Hilton aren’t fixtures at Los Angeles fashion week. After walking Jeremy Scott Sunday night and John Sakalis Monday afternoon, Nikki said she’s shelving the shows to head to Australia to host the Melbourne Cup horse races with her sister. “I’m a working woman now,” she said. “No more fun and fashion shows for me. It sucks.”
@chanel and @pharrell dropped what’s being dubbed as the world’s most exclusive sneakers yesterday. The Adidas Originals NMD Hu, which Williams designed in collaboration with Chanel and @adidasoriginals, has a waiting list of over 120K people who pre-registered online at chanelatcolette.fr –– and only 500 pairs are on sale. The singer predicted the resale value of the shoes could reach $40K. Read the full interview on WWD.com. Link in bio. #wwdfashion (📷: Dominique Maître)
@imanshumpert is diving deeper into his creative endeavors and relaunching his clothing line, Post 90s, and is helping to raise money for the hurricane victims in St. Maarten with a jersey he’s designed with his brother. Not only does #TheProfit return to CNBC tonight, but @marcuslemonis has launched @shopmarcus, a new shopping and lifestyle retail experience in Aspen and Chicago, with more locations to come. The retail stores offer in-store stylists and a variety of contemporary womenswear selections.
“It’s life, I’m going to face it,” @mingxi11 sighed. “I fell, but you know, I think the most important thing is that I get back up. I had the love, the help from my sister — the girl next to me Gizele [Oliveira] — she’s so nice. When I went backstage everybody was trying to comfort me like ‘Oh Ming, it’s OK.’ I’m really, really touched. I think it’s them who gave me the courage to go back on stage for the finale,” Xi told WWD of her fall at the @victoriassecret fashion show. @louisvuitton tapped @therealpeterlindbergh for its latest city-centric photo book, which is part of a series called Fashion Eye. The primarily black and white book captures the spirit of Berlin in 57 images shot between 1989 and 2019. “Berlin is an inspiration for me, more than a city. I mean @millajovovich is simply Berlin!” said Lindbergh. #wwdfashion
“You know, I think audiences expect a certain performance so I have to deliver to them what they’re expecting to a certain degree. But I’m also a different actor and a different person, I have my own spin on the character,” says @noahegalvin of his takeover of the leading role in “Dear Evan Hansen” following the departure of @bensplatt, who originated the role. For pre-fall 2018, @etro created richly-colored wonderland, using tapestries, textiles and wallpapers from the Eastern world at large. The line featured floral and graphic prints and jacquard motifs, like this two-piece look featured here. #wwdfashion (📷: Giovanna Pavesi)
@kith is moving into children’s. The men’s and women’s streetwear brand has launched Kidset, a Kith kids line located in New York at 64 Bleecker Street. The line includes mini versions of staple Kith pieces like the Astor bomber jacket and the Kith box logo sweatshirts, along with a wall that can display up to 120 pairs of shoes from @adidas, @newbalance, @timberland and more. #wwdfashion
“I just wanted to create this fully rounded character, but I do think what excited me most was just the opportunity to give a group of people representation that I feel needs it. I like to do characters in projects that stand for something and Karolina definitely does, so that was really exciting to me,” @ginnygardner says of her new role in @hulu’s “The Runaways.” Gardner plays Karolina Dean, a queer superhero, which is a rarity for @marvel.
