LIGHT READING: Frank Lipman’s new book, “Total Renewal: 7 Keys to Resilience, Vitality and Long-Term Health,” has a celebrity-fashion following that could rival that of Madonna’s Kabbalah teacher. Donna Karan threw a party for the doctor last week that drew veteran actresses Patricia Clarkson and Sylvia Miles, as well as Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon. Keeping with the theme of total renewal, guests brought back that old party chestnut and chased Bacon around to come up with their own chains of six degrees, but they got a little carried away coming up with a double helix: Lipman treats Clarkson, who guest starred on “Frasier” with Jane Adams, who appeared in “The Anniversary Party” with Parker Posey, a star of “Personal Velocity” with Sedgwick, who is married to Bacon. Bacon, duh, was in “Footloose” with Sarah Jessica Parker, whose most recent “Sex and the City” season featured a guest spot by Miles, who is also appearing in a short film being made for Karan’s fall DKNY collection. Karan, by the way, is also a patient of Lipman.

LADIES’ NIGHT: Loulou de la Falaise christened her upscale signature collection and Paris boutique less than three months ago, but already she’s reaching out to a broader public. The designer has been tapped by French mail-order giant 3 Suisses to create a mini collection of knitwear priced from about $39 to $95, plus a necklace to match, at $62. The items will be featured in 3 Suisses’ fall-winter catalog, destined for some 7 million French households this summer. De la Falaise, a muse of retired couturier Yves Saint Laurent, is actually following in her old master’s footsteps. He designed a tuxedo for the La Redoute catalog in 1997. And de la Falaise isn’t the only Paris style icon putting style in the post. Martine Sitbon is also on board with 3 Suisses. She created a mini wardrobe consisting of a T-shirt, blouson and skirt. Can a Sitbon diffusion line be far behind?
FAST FASHION: As makeovers go, it’s a doozy. Christian Lacroix has been asked to give France’s network of high-speed trains new-look interiors. Lacroix competed for the design contract against two other contenders, including his LVMH stable mate, Kenzo. Lacroix’s proposal, which calls for bright colors and an asymmetrical seating plan, will be introduced to more than half of the network’s trains between 2005 and 2008. Lacroix has quite the transportation touch: Air France last year chose the celebrated couturier to create new uniforms for some 35,000 employees.
SIXTIES STYLE: Recently, Renée Zellweger’s been sporting a lot of evening looks by Carolina Herrera, but she’s all vintage — well, at least, Sixties — for two New York events surrounding her new Sixties-styled comedy, “Down With Love.” For a cast party held Sunday night and the movie’s New York premiere tonight, she’s wearing looks exclusively from Rita Watnick’s collection of clothes and her new vintage jewelry from Watnick’s Beverly Hills boutique, Lily et Cie. Tonight’s number is a black silk peau de sois sheath and a platinum and diamond Royal Asscher cut bracelet of 32.64 carats. Watnick was responsible for Zellweger’s yellow chiffon Jean Desses goddess gown at the 2001 Academy Awards.
CATHERINE THE GREAT: After “Moulin Rouge,” what’s next? If you’re two-category Academy Award-winning art director and costume designer Catherine Martin, you swap cancan dancers for cavalry. Back home in Sydney until July gearing up for her two latest collaborations with husband and creative partner Baz Luhrmann — the birth of their first child and their next film, “Alexander The Great” — Martin also was catching up with some of her favorite Australian fashion labels Monday at the Mercedes Australian Fashion Week shows in Sydney. Spotted in the front row of hot Brisbane label Easton Pearson, Martin said the Bazmark team is still weighing up location options for the estimated $150 million biopic that will star Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role — and pre-visualization filming is due to start in late January. Where the film ultimately ends up being shot will also dictate cast and costume numbers. “How things pan out in the world is important; we may even end up shooting it here in Australia,” said Martin at MAFW’s new venue down on Sydney Harbour — a few miles from its original home of Fox Studios Australia, which is where “Moulin Rouge” was shot. “But we have a deal to shoot in Morocco and if we shoot with a real army there, we’ll have 1,000 cavalry and 5,000 foot soldiers.”
