NORMA’S NEWS: Veteran designer Norma Kamali has a new business venture in mind, but she’s not revealing many details. While speaking at the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Awards on Thursday, Kamali disclosed that she is developing a new beauty concept, which she will most likely launch in a new Manhattan store. "Even though I’ve been in the business for so long, I feel like it’s the first time," Kamali told an emerging generation of designers nominated for various awards. "I have all the same fears as any of you starting today."

As for the awards, Korean designers Hanii Yoon and Gene Kang, who have shown their Y & Kei women’s collection in New York for two seasons, were the surprise winners for women’s design, beating highly hyped new faces like Zac Posen, Proenza Schouler and Peter Som. John Sencion and Brad John’s Flight 001, a travel accessories store, won for retail concept, Barr + Barr’s Helen Barr won for accessories and Keanan Duffty won the men’s Rising Star award.

BACK TO SCHOOL: Apparently, some Seventh Avenue types have no qualms about getting called to the principal’s office. Bobbi Brown, Lew Frankfort, Michael Gould, Norma Kamali and Pamela Bell have signed up for this spring’s Principal for a Day program.
