SHOPPING FOR PHIL?: Sources in Milan say that actress Sharon Stone and her husband, Phil Bronstein, will be attending the Versace and Versus men’s fall collection show in Milan on Sunday. The couple is said to be staying at Donatella Versace’s villa on Lake Como and is expected to attend the show’s afterparty. A Versace spokesman declined comment.
SNEAK PREVIEW: Skechers could be making strides toward signing a licensing deal with Kellwood Co. for a juniors and a young men’s line. According to sources, the companies are in talks, but a Kellwood spokeswoman said: “We have nothing to report at this time. At any given time, we are talking to a hundred companies about acquisitions and licensing arrangements.” Skechers officials were unavailable for comment.
As reported, Skechers signed a deal with Kids Headquarters for a girls’ and boys’ collection to launch for back-to-school retailing, which led Britney Spears to file a $1.5 million lawsuit against Skechers for several claims, one being breach of contract. Spears’ lawyer said Skechers was supposed to approach Kids Headquarters with the possibility of producing a line of children’s apparel under Spears’ name.
COUTURE FLOW: Couture may be a shrinking society, but it’s up by one official member as of Thursday. That’s when the Chambre Syndicale welcomed Dominique Sirop as its newest full-fledged member. France’s ministry of finance and industry, which governs the use of the “haute couture” label, will allow Sirop to use the tag “couture creation.” Sirop, who founded his house in 1996, shows his next collection Jan. 20 at the Lido cabaret.
SPAIN GAIN?: More details are leaking out about the forthcoming relaunch of Capucci, the legendary Roman fashion house. As reported, Bernhard Willhelm has been tapped as a key member of the design team. But word has it Spanish great Sybilla is also involved in the project.
BAG LADY: Véronique Branquinho, gearing up for her men’s wear debut in Paris on Jan. 25, decided to include a few styles of zippered messenger bags in the collection. “They’re big enough to hold a laptop,” she said. “Every man I know has a laptop.” Now she’s on a kick and plans to introduce handbags for women as part of the fall 2003 collection she’ll unveil in Paris in March. But think makeup, not computers. “I don’t have a laptop,” she said.
