STELLA’S NEW STORE: Stella McCartney is revving up for the April opening of her first London unit: a four-story, 10,000-square-foot Georgian house on Bruton Street. The designer plans to dedicate an entire floor to bespoke tailoring —not surprising, since McCartney did some of her training on Savile Row — and open a perfume room to showcase her first fragrance, which launches in September. Another room will be covered in marquetry, the 17th-century decorative technique using carved and inlaid wood. Other rooms will have tiled walls and handprinted wallpaper. In addition, a central skylight will illuminate all four floors. Later this year, the spotlight will fall once again on McCartney when a documentary about her life and work airs on terrestrial TV in Britain. Geoff Wonfor, who directed “The Beatles Anthology” and a documentary about Sir Paul McCartney, is shooting the film, which begins with McCartney’s last show at Chloé and follows her on her travels through Paris, London and Italy.
IT’S IN THE BAG: A shoe man for years, Christian Louboutin is finally striding into the handbag business. He plans to unveil his first full collection, with about 25 variations, during Paris Fashion Week in early March. Louboutin said he’s tested a few bags in his boutiques — with positive sales results — but most have been closely related to shoe styles. “But now, it will be more grown-up,” he said. “Even if they’re twins [with the shoes], they don’t always have to go out together!”
NAME GAME: It might not be Donna, Ralph and Calvin, but with only five weeks and counting, Los Angeles Fashion Week is starting to take shape. WWD learned Friday that Rami Kashou, Luis Verdad, Corey Lynn Calter, Joey & T, Kablan by Therese Kablan, Pegah, Cynthia Vincent, Ashley Page, Rock & Republic, Eduardo Lucero, David Park, Nikolaki and Juniper & Jasper will kick things off March 31. Meanwhile, 7th on Sixth has awarded two more underwritten venues for its downtown “Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A.” series, running April 1-4: Cornell Collins and Magda Berliner. Michelle Mason was the first to receive a space; a fourth slot is expected to be announced in the coming week.

THE BRITISH ARE COMING: The Brits are staking a claim at this year’s Academy Awards. Last week, Garrard representatives wined and dined the media, publicists and stylists in preparation for the arrival during Oscar week of creative director Jade Jagger, who will set up shop in a Beverly Hills Hotel bungalow for 10 days. And designer Matthew Williamson, on his first trip to Los Angeles, will be back to service his gowns. “I’m used to famous women wearing my clothes in London and New York, so Los Angeles isn’t drastically different, but it will be interesting to observe the whole spectacle,” he said last Thursday. Jimmy Choo’s Tamara Mellon will also be on hand, as she has during previous Oscar weeks, overseeing a team of artisans at a Peninsula suite customizing the stilettos of the stars.
THINK DRINK: Alexander Julian, who last spring introduced a high-end line of men’s clothing under the Alexander Julian Private Reserve label, is branching out. He’s produced a California red wine under the same label, that will be available midyear in limited distribution at American restaurants. A spokeswoman said the wine will be displayed but won’t be for sale at his men’s wear accounts, which include Neiman Marcus, Mitchell’s of Westport, Richard’s of Greenwich and Julian’s of Chapel Hill — they don’t have liquor licenses.
