TARGETING DESIGNERS: So which designer will Target Stores tap next? The chain has done wonders for the profiles of Stephen Sprouse and Philippe Starck with their latest projects, as well as introduced enviable private label fashion and home lines with Mossimo, Michael Graves and Todd Oldham.

According to sources, Target plans to launch a maternity collection this fall with designer Liz Lange, who in April teamed with Nike to design a line of performance-oriented activewear for pregnant women. And the retailer is actively pursuing other crafty design projects to appeal to its ideal shopping demographic. Word has it the store is pitching designer-cum-talk-show-host Isaac Mizrahi to create an accessories collection, which could help further boost his profile since launching “The Isaac Mizrahi Show” on the Oxygen network. A spokeswoman for Mizrahi, who closed his ready-to-wear collection in 1998, but is still represented in stores by licensed collections of shoes and coats, said she was unaware of any such project in the works, saying, “Sounds like a rumor to me.”

ROCK AND FROCKS: What’s the right background music for couture? Lots of it. A slew of music-themed parties and private concerts in Paris next week coincide with an already jam-packed couture schedule. Ska-rocker and fashion chameleon Gwen Stefani, in town for a concert with No Doubt and the Christian Dior show, is hosting a “Rocksteady Party” at the Nirvana lounge. Puff Daddy sidekick and producer Tony Deniro will then take the baton, following Monday night’s Versace party with an after-hours event of his own. Meanwhile, Mr. P. Diddy himself is hosting a fashion bash at Les Bains on Tuesday.

SPECS APPEAL: For sunglasses-obsessed Angelenos, status is having a frame no one else has. Otherwise, it’s tantamount to showing up at a party in the same dress. Hopefully, Cameron Diaz, Charlize Theron and Lisa Rinna won’t be popping into the Ivy at the same time. The three separately dropped into L.A. Eyeworks newest Neil Denari-designed gem on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles and all bought the oversized “Von Twirl” frames. It was one of two pairs Diaz picked up — she was also there for a new prescription.
