THE BIG NIGHT: Various crowned heads and blue bloods of Europe turned out in force for Valentino’s — don’t ask the age — birthday party on Sunday night at Giancarlo Giammetti’s mega-flat in London’s Cadogan Square. Guests included Crown Prince and Crown Princess Pavlos of Greece, Prince Kyril of Bulgaria, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Gloria von Thurn und Taxis and Alexandra von Furstenberg. Tabloid royals Elizabeth Hurley and Elle Macpherson showed up, too, to wish a happy birthday to Val and sing along with R&B crooner Dorothy, who was performing. The flat was festooned with silver balloons, and guests dined on pasta and fresh mozzarella flown in for the bash.
NANCY’S NIGHT: It was a big weekend for Los Angeles philanthropist Nancy Davis. On Friday night, the charity event she founded with Tommy Hilfiger, the Race to Erase MS, celebrated its 10th anniversary at Century Plaza Hotel, featuring entertainment by Motown greats The Four Tops and Eric Benet. The benefit, which raised $2.3 million for the Nancy Davis Center Without Walls, bringing the total raised for multiple sclerosis research to $20 million in 10 years, drew loyal supporters Kelsey Grammar, Tom Arnold, Tony Danza, Anjelica Huston and Steve and Jamie Tisch. The next night, Davis celebrated her 44th birthdaywith a dinner at her parents Marvin and Barbara Davis’ Beverly Hills estate, The Knoll, and she announced that she and husband Kenny Rickles are expecting their first child (Davis has three boys from a previous marriage), a girl named Isabella, fittingly, on Thanksgiving Day.
REALITY CHECK: “Oh my! Is it really that much?” said Charlize Theron, eyeballing a bottle of Alexander McQueen’s $195 Kingdom fragrance at the opening of his London flagship Wednesday night. “It might be worth it — I haven’t tried it yet.” Theron, who is in London until the end of May filming “The Life and Death of Peter Sellers,” wore a leather and chiffon belted black dress by McQueen. Other guests at the Bond Street opening included Sam Taylor-Wood, Rankin Waddell, Annabel Neilson, Meg Mathews and Isabella Blow.
Thursday night, it was fellow designer Zandra Rhodes’ turn to shine. The pink-haired one celebrated the opening of her Fashion and Textile Museum with an exhibition called “My Favourite Dress,” featuring — yes! — designers’ best-loved frocks. While fashion types including Julien Macdonald and Giancarlo Giammetti sung the praises of many a dress in the exhibition, Sophia Kokosalaki had no doubts about her favorite one. “Well, mine of course. Why would I mention someone else’s?” she asked.
And while there might have been 70 dresses in the exhibition, Princess Michael of Kent really wanted a different article of clothing. “Put down your coats!” she told photographers as she prepared to step over a tiny puddle outside the party entrance.
