Long ago — though in a galaxy not too far away — Karl Lagerfeld delivered futuristic chic to the Fendi runway, so it was no wonder that he took the timely opportunity to wax techy on Thursday afternoon, joining his Milanese peers in a space race that has each one showing more far-out fare than the last. Lagerfeld, however, is no cadet.
He knows his way around a foil shift or an iridescent, filmy mini, and his spacewear looked more wearable than most of the rest. Looping side panels caught the breeze on his sparest dresses, while his clever sweaters came bordered in chunky knit chain-link.
Flexing the Fendi know-how, he worked neo-cool fabrics from perforated leathers to rubbery strips into Eighties’ shapes, all cinched tight with a wide belt.
