NEW YORK -- More than 400 guests showed up Wednesday evening for the opening of the men's and women's Ferragamo boutiques that now flank Trump Tower's main entrance on Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets.Among those floating between the two stores was Michael Gould, Bloomingdale's chief executive, who said Ferragamo was a good resource and he came to wish the family well. Amy Irving and Fisher Stevens arrived expecting the store to be open for business -- it wasn't -- and were a little disappointed they couldn't leave with some of the goods."I'm here tonight as Indira Ghandi," said Kate Nelligan, explaining the gauzy green and gold Dries Van Noten dress she was wearing. Asked if she is a shoe person and was there to check out the merchandise, Nelligan said, "I'm not even a clothing person. Just to get me presentable tonight took a lot of effort. I'm far too guilty to shop -- it's ruined my life!"Combined, the new boutiques occupy 5,000 square feet of selling space, for an increase of 800 square feet over the company's two previous Fifth Avenue stores. In celebration of the openings, Ferragamo contributed $75,000 to The 52nd Street Project, a drama organization that gives disadvantaged children and teens the opportunity to create and take part in plays. The grant will enable the theater group to create a permanent home in a renovated warehouse on West 52nd Street. As might be expected, Ferragamo's landlord, Donald Trump, and his wife, Marla, showed up at the opening. Trump said he wears Ferragamo shoes and thinks they're great. Marla said she doesn't, but guesses she'll have to now.
