CHICAGO — Fashion Group International of Chicago’s “Night of Stars” last month honored Gilles Mendel of J. Mendel, Graff, Laura Mercier and Saks Fifth Avenue along with Chicago area talent in the categories of fashion, home, beauty, accessories and retail.
“I could not have been more excited to receive this award from the Fashion Group,” Mendel said at the Peninsula Hotel here. “Being recognized for doing something that I love is an absolute dream.”
Mendel received an “icon” award, which is given to industry veterans and leaders. Local winners, meanwhile, won “rising star” awards. Chicago plus-size designer and rising star winner Tennille White joined Mendel in the fashion category, and Graff won an icon award along with Chicago area jewelry designer Winifred Grace, who received a rising star award in the jewelry category.
For beauty, Laura Mercier was recognized as an icon and Stacey Koerner, founder of Beauty on Call, received the rising star award. For retail, Saks Fifth Avenue also was honored along with Helen Yi, a boutique in the city’s Bucktown neighborhood.
For home, Barbara Barry, won the icon award and interior designer Kara Mann was named a rising star.
“This year’s honorees are setting the standard for luxury in Chicago and beyond,” said Peggy Lanigan, President, Fashion Group Foundation of Chicago. “FGI Chicago is continuously seeking to recognize standout design talent, and we are glad to have the opportunity to bring these icons and innovators together at one spectacular event.”
