NEW YORK — Fashion Group International's next Night of Stars will be themed "The Rule Breakers," so it makes sense the organization has chosen Jean Paul Gaultier as the evening's recipient of the Superstar Award. After all, the designer, who celebrated the 30th anniversary of his fashion house this year, has put men in skirts and suggested corsets and lingerie for day.

"Jean Paul Gaultier embodies the spirit of this year's event," Margaret Hayes, FGI's president, said. "His rule-breaking design philosophy has secured him a unique place in fashion and identifies him as a true superstar."

Others who have received the award include Burt Tansky, Valentino, Giorgio Armani, Donna Karan, Suzy Menkes, Tom Ford and the Lauder family.

The gala is scheduled for Oct. 25 at Cipriani 42nd Street here. This year's lead sponsor for the event is Lord & Taylor, and participating sponsors are Arcade Marketing, Ebel, Geoffrey Beene, Givaudan, In Style and The Taubman Co.
