NEW YORK — Gadzooks is about to go for a ride on a rod.

The Dallas-based junior retailer has signed an agreement with Von Dutch Originals, a Los Angeles-based denim label inspired by the legendary hot-rod customizer Von Dutch. Under the terms of the agreement, Von Dutch agreed to design exclusive apparel, swimwear, shoes and accessories for Gadzooks for a term of 18 months. The retailer will offer the assortment under the Von Dutch Originals label, retailing for $16 to $89, in Gadzooks’ 412 doors beginning in November.

“The exclusivity agreement was an obvious decision for us,” said Paula Masters, Gadzooks’ president and chief merchandising officer. “The brand is perfect for Gadzooks simply because it speaks to today’s youth and stands for the freedom to express the different you’s, which is what the Gadzooks girl is all about.”

Von Dutch manufactures women’s and men’s apparel, jewelry and accessories. It distributes throughout Europe, Canada and Japan and wholesales to more than 700 retailers domestically — ranging from Harley-Davidson stores to the trendy New York chain Scoop. The Von Dutch flagship and corporate headquarters are both located at 7521 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.
