Paris — John Galliano has dallied with swimwear, but now he’s poised to make a real splash with his first women’s beachwear line for his own label.

The collection is being produced under license with Italian manufacturer Albisetti, which also makes beachwear for the likes of Chloé and Roberto Cavalli. The Albisetti pact includes Galliano’s nascent men’s underwear line, as well as a men’s beachwear line that will be unveiled soon.
The women’s beachwear collection — spanning one-pieces, beachwear separates and bikinis in molded-cup, triangle and bandeau versions — unfolds across eight themes. A small line of beach bags complements the line.
Galliano signatures run rife, seen in corsetry references and a gypsy-tinged patchwork theme, as well as the house’s familiar Gazette print. But it’s Galliano’s charming witticisms that are bound to provoke swimsuit envy. A counterpoint to a striped jailhouse theme is a jail key print replete with metal key charms. Elsewhere, the house’s striped seersucker set comes hand-embroidered with the territorial claim: “John’s Beach.”
The collection will be on show at the Espace Pierre Cardin on July 1 to 3. Prices range from $90 to $100 at wholesale.
