NEW YORK — John Lindsey, former sales director at Bill Blass, has joined Eric Gaskins Design as vice president and director of sales and marketing.
In his new role, Lindsey will focus on growing the New York designer’s wholesale network while strengthening marketing efforts.
Lindsey joined Blass in 1996, and was named sales director the following year. He spent a lot of his time at trunk shows nationwide, speaking to customers directly on the sales floor. He left Blass in April.
Gaskins said he had been looking to hire someone who could help him grow his 16-year-old business.
The lion’s share of his sales had come from custom orders and trunk shows at stores like Saks Fifth Avenue.
“We have always been very successful, it’s just that our avenues for our performance have been somewhat limited,” Gaskins said. “It’s more than time for the company to grow and move to the next level. John has a relationship with the most important department and specialty stores, which is key to the growth of any company.”
Gaskins added that he has annual wholesale volume of about $2 million and hopes to step up sales by 50 percent over the next year.
“Heretofore, [Gaskin’s] business has been a predominantly custom-business based in New York with a small trunk show business, which we look to expand,” Lindsey said. “The clothes are at a quality level, and essentially classic with a youthful perspective that is very marketable.”
