Gen Art presented its Fresh Faces in Fashion event Thursday night at the Sofitel Hotel, featuring emerging lines Again, Joseph Singh, Mansoor Scott and Mila Hermanovski.
Mounted in presentations (where some models talked and sipped water throughout), the strongest collection was Singh’s, adapted from his senior thesis at Parsons The New School for Design and inspired by pleating on the inside of a casket. For the all-black (save for one white dress) collection, he employed various takes on the traditional tailoring technique ranging from asymmetric pleats on a leather vest to knife-pleated, knee-length skirts. The collection by Hermanovski, a former “Project Runway” contestant, offered a sleek take on looser-fitting garments done in organic washed fabrics such as linen, silk and leather. Her inspiration — aerial photos of crop fields and landscapes — made for a graphic look on the geometric seams on leggings and a dress. At Again, Amber Kekich-Purling gave Fifties-style work and dress wear a modern spin, while at Mansoor Scott, Sabah Mansoor Husain and Bethany Scott Meuleners looked to San Francisco’s mix of urban and nature. Their best look was a sheer floral shirtdress shown over white skinny pants.
