LOS ANGELES — Knitwear brand Oliver Twist, swimsuit designer Shay Todd and edgy contemporary maker Brain Lichtenberg are among the fledgling talents Gen Art said Wednesday will be showcased in its biannual West Coast “Fresh Faces in Fashion” event.

The runway show, to be held Oct. 30 at the renovated historic Gas Company Lofts downtown, also will host sportswear lines Editte Keshishian and Lemon Twist, men’s wear brand Obedient Sons, and — a first for Gen Art with a line from Japan — the forward contemporary Ballroom.

“There’s so much talent out of the Pacific Rim and it’s such a huge market, we wanted to build that relationship with the many Japanese buyers and brands who come to L.A.,” said Lee Trimble, Gen Art regional program manager. “Our New York shows have presented European designers, so it made sense we open it up[here] to our Asian neighbors.”

Featured accessories designers are Calleen Cordero handcrafted footwear, Em LaLa handbags, Gabriela Artigas fine jewelry and iRonni Kapos jewelry. In addition, the finalists of the nationwide “Sass in a Glass” competition, sponsored by Florida Citrus Grapefruit Juice, will be showcased. The winner, announced that evening, receives a cash prize of $5,000.

Sponsors Acura, Absolut Vanilla Vodka, Nikon, L’Oréal Féria and Special K are among those who’ve signed on.

In related news, Gen Art announced its first Midwest Fresh Faces show, slated for Nov. 13 at the Park West Theater in Chicago. A Miami installment will be added to the circuit next March.
