Each of the three designers will present roughly 20 pieces of collections. The designers were chosen, according to Gen Art fashion director Mary Gehlhar, because of their recognition by retailers, stylists and editors.
“We choose designers that are doing well and building a clientele, but still don’t have the resources to do a show in the tents during fashion week,” Gehlhar said. “We narrow it down to designers that we feel have a buzz and are ready for the next step.”
The eclectic group — Facchinelli is from Argentina, Kashou was raised in Jerusalem and Mounayer is of Palestinian descent — have all participated in other Gen Art-sponsored events, which is standard for the fashion week production. The organization has been producing fashion events since 1995.
Facchinelli was featured in the Fresh Faces in Fashion New York show in October, while Kashou did the Los Angeles edition in November. Mounayer, who has held small shows in New York, last worked with Gen Art, a nonprofit organization, in the Styles 2000 competition held here.
