No one wears the pants around here, as feminine staples from poufy party dresses to smart skirts turn up in the latest resort offerings. For Ports 1961, Tia Cibani looks back to iconic housewife Lucille Ball in her lineup of cinched-waist silhouettes and full skirts with bows and retro pastels. Erin Fetherston is nostalgic, too, channeling old-school debutantes in soft, ladylike cocktail dresses with an impressionistic feel, as in a short taffeta frock in a muted floral pattern. Bryan Bradley’s feast of leaf, flower and animal prints makes it onto smart shifts and skirts at Tuleh. Phi’s first resort collection, designed by Andreas Melbostad, is a study in contrasts, from sexy lingerie-inspired dresses to boyish shrunken suits. At Abaeté, meanwhile, Laura Poretzky taps Ellsworth Kelly’s color field paintings, translating them into colorblocking and stripes on sporty minidresses and cardigans. And for Costume National, Ennio Capasa’s lineup features swingy brushstroke dresses and flirty cocktail frocks.
