NEW YORK — Kimora Lee Simmons hopes Baby Phat fans will keep charging.

Simmons, creative director of Baby Phat clothing, and her husband, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, are launching the pink Baby Phat Prepaid Rush Visa card at the Baby Phat runway show on Saturday in Bryant Park. Developed in partnership with UniRush Financial Services, Russell Simmons’ financial services company, the card will offer Baby Phat customers rebates up to 10 percent off merchandise purchased on babyphat.com, along with other customer affinity incentives and special offers.

“Kimora wanted to provide her customers with a credit card so that they could easily purchase Baby Phat and help them to build their credit at the same time,” said Michelle Perez, the brand’s marketing director.

Specially designed to help build credit, the card needs no credit check or deposit to sign up; all that is required is that the person be a U.S. citizen. Since it is prepaid, end users load funds on the card through direct-pay check deposit, check or money order or at thousands of off-line locations nationally. Once loaded, the card works like any Visa debit card. Cardholders can spend only what they load on the card. Costs of the card include a $19.95 sign-up fee, plus $1 per transaction, or $1.50 per ATM withdrawal.

All new card holders receive a Baby Phat welcome pack, which includes a pink logo T, signed photo and welcome letter from Simmons, stick-on jewelry of the Baby Phat cat logo and exclusive release details of her new music CD, planned for a holiday launch.

Simmons will hand the card out at her fashion show to a limited number of people, who will then be allowed into the show’s after party at a location that has not been disclosed.
