NEW YORK — Moderate designers are taking notice of runway trends. They’re doing soft pastels for the current girly-is-good moment, as well as sporty tracksuits. Moderate shoppers, meanwhile, are more likely than the population at large to say they are satisfied with the assortment in stores. They also spend more on apparel on average than others — about $60 more per capita last year, resulting in overall spending of about $6.2 billion annually in a category dominated by a few key players.
