Designers were out in force Monday night at God’s Love We Deliver’s annual Golden Heart awards dinner at IAC’s headquarters.
Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Tommy Hilfiger and Tory Burch were among those celebrating 7th on Sale’s award for outstanding community service.
Even Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg sounded impressed, welcoming Karan, Klein, Anna Wintour and MAC’s John Demsey to the stage to accept the award, “Who would have thought I know people like this?”
The mayor was quick to acknowledge the friendly competition that ensued. “Calvin is holding this on behalf of everybody. Donna, of course, has to grab it right away — absolutely.”
Karan also was up for giving thanks. “On behalf of the CFDA, I have to say [that] dreams do become a reality.” She added she is hopeful for a time when such services won’t be needed, and people will no longer go hungry.
She also noted the elbow grease needed. “We together can truly touch one another’s hearts. It’s one thing for designers to have an idea. We have ideas all the time. It’s another thing to manifest them, and manifestation is not easy.”
Klein followed up with, “Naturally, Donna has said it all,” and seconded her accolades for God’s Love vice chairman Blaine Trump and Wintour. He added, “One thing I would like to say is there are so many people who work so hard for the CFDA and God’s Love We Deliver, and so we are just accepting for all of you and thank you for your great effort.”
While greeting some of the 400 guests, including the event’s emcee, Deborah Norville, her friend Chris Riley, Robert Altman and Lynda Carter in the IAC’s lobby, Trump recalled God’s Love We Deliver’s early days when it was based in the basement of an Upper West Side church. More than one million meals have been delivered since that time.
“Every Friday we had to take our office apart because they used it for bible classes over the weekend. On Monday mornings, we would put it back together,” she said. “This shows you that New Yorkers really take care of each other.”
Hilfiger, who attended the party with his ex-fiancée, Dee Ocleppo, presented the lifetime achievement award to Harry Slatkin, president and founder of Slatkin & Co.

For the holidays, @Burberry partnered with 20-year-old artist @blondeymccoy on a series of three outdoor murals in downtown Manhattan. The murals are McCoy’s interpretation of a Christmas eve party, the idea of charity and the spirit of family. His third mural, pictured here, is the most personal.
