NEW YORK — The revolving doors of retailing spun some more on Monday as Fred Grover assumed the position of president of the Bluenotes subsidiary of American Eagle Outfitters Inc.
He succeeds Lora Tisi.
Grover is a veteran of 25 years with American Eagle and was promoted to senior vice president and general merchandise manager last year after serving for 10 years as vice president and general merchandise manager of men’s wear.
"Fred played a major role in the repositioning of the American Eagle brand during the mid-Nineties," said co-chief executive officer Roger Markfield in a statement. "Under Fred’s leadership, American Eagle’s men’s business achieved significant growth, and enjoyed many years of success. I am confident that with his merchandising talent and broad retail experience, Fred will successfully lead the repositioning of the Bluenotes brand."
The Bluenotes/Thriftys chain includes 111 doors in Canada targeting 12- to 22-year-olds with urban/suburban, denim-driven merchandise.
American Eagle made the announcement late Monday. Officials said that Tisi had resigned from the company.
Grover’s promotion adds another name to the growing list of retail executives who, voluntarily or involuntarily, have made moves recently.
So far this year, Beth Pritchard left as ceo of Bath & Body Works; former Gap ceo Millard Drexler joined J. Crew as chairman and ceo, succeeding Emily Woods and Ken Pilot, respectively; Penney’s named Lana Cain Krauter as executive vice president and general merchandise manager for men’s and children’s, succeeding William Cappiello; Talbots promoted Ken Bosworth to executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, ousting H. Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia. It’s really a show that celebrates that and the paisley design of India and its origin,” said Veronica Etro. #wwdfashion #mfw #ss18 (📷: @delphineachard)
