Guido Maria Kretschmer is German fashion’s man of the grand gesture and this Africa-inspired collection was characteristically opulent. Serengeti wildlife was referenced in spots across a fitted chocolate brown satin top with a peplum trim and matching pencil skirt, as well as a leopard-print wool coat and a floor-length one-shoulder gown in bronze sequined tiger stripes. Peacocks aren’t common on the African plains, but they made an appearance here: their colorful feathers covered every inch of one figure-hugging gown and fluttered across the bodice and cape of another.
While no one can accuse Kretschmer of understatement, his craftsmanship is meticulous and his high-octane glamour is favored by a well-heeled crowd. His elaborate eveningwear is a red carpet favorite and each look was met with rapturous applause at the show.
