MILAN — Diego Della Valle has zeroed in on another bright, young New York talent.
On Monday, Hogan, the Italian accessories and fashion label, tapped Thakoon Panichgul to work on a special collaborative project, beginning with the fall 2008 season. This confirms a report in WWD on Oct. 8 that the chairman and chief executive of Hogan parent Tod’s has been in talks with the designer.
“We look forward to working with Thakoon, one of the most exciting American design talents,” Della Valle said in a statement. “I feel confident he will endorse this project with the great energy of the Hogan brand.”
Panichgul, a former fashion features editor at Harper’s Bazaar and student at Parsons The New School for Design, launched his namesake line in September 2004. He has since been lauded for his soft, feminine designs and technical innovations. Panichgul was a runner-up for the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund in 2006, and nominated by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2007 for the Swarovski Award for emerging women’s wear designer of the year.
First launched in the Eighties as a footwear collection, Hogan has expanded into categories such as handbags and outerwear. A Hogan spokeswoman declined to provide further details on the nature of the new collaboration and whether it will focus on accessories or apparel. Products will be available in stores beginning in July 2008.
Last year, Della Valle tapped New York designer Derek Lam as creative director of the Tod’s brand. While there has been speculation Panichgul will take over similar responsibilities at Hogan, the spokeswoman added the designer will not be appointed to that post.
“I am thrilled to be partnering with such an esteemed company and look forward to working on this exciting project,” Panichgul added in the statement.
